MYTHS AND FACTS
Myth 1 - Homeopathy cures only
chronic illnesses, not acute ailments.
Fact - Homeopathy cures both chronic and acute ailments. In fact, an
acute disease becomes chronic only when its symptoms are allowed to develop
further. If homeopathy can effectively cure chronic ailments, then why can't it
cure acute illnesses? In fact, at MindHeal Homeopathy, we have successfully
treated acute illnesses like colds, infections, fevers, diarrhoea, etc, which
form 20% of our total cases.
Myth 2 - Homeopathy is slow to
act.
Fact - Homeopathy acts fast in acute illnesses like colds, infections,
fever, diarrhoea, etc. However, it takes a little longer for chronic ailments
like asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, kidney failure, osteoporosis, high
cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, etc. The time
taken to heal varies depending upon one's immune system, stress factors,
lifestyle, habits and personality, although the medicines start working
instantly.
Myth 3 - Homeopathy is mere
placebo effect.
Fact - Research has proven that homeopathy is much above placebo effect.
In fact, in India, homeopathic medicines undergo clinical trials conducted by
the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, the regulatory body for
homeopathic practices. As homeopathic medicines also cure babies, infants and
animals, the theory that they are placebos is invalid.
Myth 4 - Homeopathic medicines
contain steroids.
Fact - Homeopathic medicines are made of natural ingredients like plants,
minerals, etc. Especially the ones made out of plants generally contain
ALKALOIDS which are much effective and free of side-effects (like excessive
body hair, backache, etc.), unlike steroids.
Myth 5 - Homeopathic medicines
are unsafe for pregnant women.
Fact - Homeopathy is the ideal medicine for pregnant women. Where regular
medicines can have possible side-effects on both mother and child, homeopathic
medicines are gentle and address problems like nausea, anaemia, backache,
cramps, morning sickness, heartburn, diarrhoea, blood pressure, emotional
distress, etc. which normally occur during pregnancy. Also, since a tiny amount
of active ingredient is used, homeopathic medicines are safe for the growing
baby.
Myth 6 - Homeopathy is not
advisable for treating cancers, especially as a supplement to radiation and
chemotherapy.
Fact - The following factors make Homeopathy viable for treating cancer:
·
Individualized remedies even if conventional treatment is not used
·
Remedies easing conventional treatment
·
Remedies soothing pain, fear of death and other psychological
issues
·
Remedies preventing relapse
Homeopathy has proved to be
successful in curing even the most severe cases, because it identifies the root
cause (which varies from person to person) and uproots cancer totally.
Myth 7 - Infections can be
treated by antibiotics only.
Fact - Antibiotics just suppress the infection, without identifying its
root cause. They don't kill the virus; so it shows up in the form of some other
aggravated sickness later. Also, they have side-effects like stomach upset,
nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, diarrhoea, etc. Homeopathy uproots both
the disease and its root cause without any side-effects, and strengthens the
immune system to fight disease germs, thus bringing down recurrence.
Myth 8 - Homeopathy is practised
by quacks having no scientific/medical background.
Fact - Homeopathy is a full-fledged medical science which requires
thorough study before practice. In India, homeopathy is a 5 1/2-year degree
course including 1-year compulsory internship. Subjects are the same as
allopathy, along with homeopathic science and philosophy. M.D. in Homeopathy is
of 3 years comprising subjects, viz. Repertory, Materia Medica, Organon of
Medicine, Homeopathic Pharmacy, Practice of Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics,
etc. So, it would be wrong to say that homeopathy is practised by quacks having
no scientific/medical background.
Myth 9 - Homeopathic medicines
have side-effects.
Fact - In some cases, there may be a slight aggravation of symptoms due
to increase in potency. This subsides within some time, as the potency is
reduced. However, this does not happen in all cases. Aggravation of symptoms
also depends upon one's constitution and body-system. But, this does not come
under side-effects; in fact, it is exteriorization of disease strengthening the
immune system.
Myth 10 - Foods like onion,
garlic, tea, coffee, etc. must be avoided during homeopathic treatment.
Fact - It is advised not to consume anything 15 minutes before and after
taking homeopathic medicines. Also, it is better to rinse the mouth if it
smells of onion, garlic, etc. Otherwise, generally there is no need to avoid
any foodstuffs during the treatment (this depends on the advice given by
respective homeopath).
Myth 11 - Homeopathy doesn't need
any diagnosis or investigation.
Fact - Homeopathy requires diagnosis to confirm the curability of disease
and to give proper direction to the homeopath. If not available, then case
history becomes vital to determine the individual symptoms.
Myth 12 - All homeopathic
medicines are the same, small and white.
Fact - The small white sugar pills are just the medium for the real
medicine which is dissolved in them. In fact, there are around 3000 different
dilutions of medicines, out of which one is selected according to the case.
Myth 13 - Homeopathy cannot cure
fevers.
Fact - Homeopathy scores over regular medicine for curing fevers in the
following respects:
·
No loss of appetite and quick recovery
·
Treatment of weakness
·
Strengthening the immune system
·
Treatment of any relapse
·
No side-effects
Myth 14 - Sweet homeopathic medicines
should not be taken by diabetic patients.
Fact - The sweet white balls are made of lactose, not glucose. Also, they
are too minute to disturb blood sugar levels. Not to forget that homeopathy
provides excellent solutions for diabetes as well, by improving the functioning
of pancreatic cells to produce insulin on their own. Thus, homeopathy suits
even diabetic patients.
